On craft, ethics, and the books we make

Who writes these books?

I do. My name is Corinne Boettcher, but until recently I wrote under the pen name Liv O'Day, a play on words of my personal mantra: "Live or die, keep writing."

The pen name got me started. Now, it's time to be honest with myself - and with you.

3 reasons why I had a pen name...

1) to secure my privacy (it can't! And it's confusing when sharing in-person)

2) to separate my identity from the brand (I'm not a brand. I'm just an artist who can't stop telling stories)

3) to write in very different genres (no need to suck up to the algorithms when you sell your books directly to readers, hehehe)

I'm a professionally trained artist (many fine art awards, BFA in studio art and multimedia design) who transitioned into writing elevated romantic comedies—books that honor the genre while offering beautiful prose and literary depth. Because I want to create works of art and story that last, I design and illustrate every cover, format every interior page, and pack every order by hand.

Why this matters • When you purchase from us, you're supporting one person's entire creative practice. Not a faceless publishing conglomerate. Not a celebrity author with a team of ghostwriters. Just me, my creative vision, and a commitment to writing great love stories you can reread and recommend to anyone - even the unsappiest dude.

If that resonates with you, welcome. If not, no hard feelings—may your next auto-buy author be just around the bend!

What is small-batch printing?

Unlike mass-market paperbacks printed by the thousands in overseas factories, every book in our collection is printed in small quantities here in the United States.

Small-batch printing allows us to maintain rigorous quality control, use premium materials that larger publishers forgo to reduce costs, and keep our environmental footprint minimal. You're not purchasing overstock. You're receiving a book that exists because you wanted it.

✦ Printed in the United States
✦ Quality-controlled by hand
✦ Premium materials throughout
✦ Sustainable environmental impact

What does "ethically made with love" mean?

It means we care deeply about how these books are made.

Ethically made: No exploitative labor practices. No unsustainable materials. We work with US-based printers who pay fair wages and maintain safe working conditions. Our paper is sourced with environmentally-conscious practices. We're not perfect, but we're intentional.

With love: Every book is handled by human hands—mine, specifically. I write these stories, design these covers, pack these orders. When you receive a book from us, you're receiving something a real person cared about at every stage. There's no algorithm between us.

In a world of mass-produced content, we're
making books the old way: slowly, carefully, and with love and respect for the craft.

Are these books appropriate for all readers?

I don't shy away from mature themes, but I'm NOT writing erotica. My books typically fall in the "closed door to slightly ajar" range depending on the story's needs. If you need specifics, please check the book description or contact me directly.

Content guidance is available upon request • We'd rather address your concerns upfront than have you encounter something that
doesn't work for you.

Why do your books cost more than mass-market paperbacks?

Because we prioritize quality over volume.

The reality of fast fiction • Mass-market paperbacks use the most economical materials available—acidic paper that yellows, thin covers, overseas labor—and print hundreds of thousands of copies to achieve the lowest possible price point. They're designed to be disposable.

There's a better, more sustainable way • Our books are printed in the United States on acid-free, archival-quality paper with durable covers built to survive multiple readings. You're investing in materials that last, ethical & sustainable production practices, and the reality that an independent author-publisher cannot negotiate bulk discounts the way major publishing houses can.

Consider this • A book you'll return to again and again, lend to friends, and keep on your shelf for years to come. We're not competing with mass-market pricing—we're offering something worth keeping.

Why should I buy direct instead of through Amazon?

The honest answer: it makes an enormous difference to independent authors.

Retail platforms take the majority of each sale to cover their infrastructure and profit margins. Direct purchases allow significantly more of your investment to support the actual creation of new work.

✦ Same or better quality book
✦ Personal service
✦ Direct support for the work you value

Large retail platforms have streamlined book-buying into a frictionless, algorithm-driven experience. That efficiency comes at a cost:
homogenization of content, exploitation of authors, and the slow erosion of
anything that doesn't fit neatly into established categories.

When you purchase directly from independent authors, you're voting with your wallet for:

✦ Books that take creative risks
✦ Authors who maintain artistic integrity
✦ Publishing models that prioritize craft over profit margins
✦ Human connection over corporate convenience

It's admittedly less convenient than one-click ordering. But convenience has never been the ally of interesting art. If you value work that exists outside the mainstream, direct purchasing is how you ensure it continues to exist.

What is your approach to sustainability?

We won't greenwash this: printing books inherently requires resources. But we're committed to doing it responsibly.

✦ Acid-free paper from sustainably
managed forests
✦ US-based printing (significantly lower carbon footprint than overseas manufacturing and shipping)
✦ Small-batch model (no warehouse waste, no pulping thousands of unsold copies)
✦ Recyclable packaging materials (no plastic shrink wrap)
✦ Minimal returns (fewer books ending up in
landfills)

We're not claiming perfection. But we're being thoughtful about our choices and their impact.

Are these books available in stores or just online?

Currently, we sell exclusively online, directly to readers. No bookstore intermediaries, no distribution agreements with chains that
require substantial margins and returns policies.

What this means for you:
✦ More accessible pricing than traditional retail distribution would allow
✦ Direct support for an independent author (100% of your purchase stays with us)
✦ Limited editions—when a print run sells out, it's gone until we print more
✦ Personal service and attention to detail

What this means for us:
We maintain independence, retain creative control, and build genuine relationships with readers rather than navigating traditional gatekeeping systems.

If you prefer shopping at local bookstores, we absolutely respect that. But if you want to support independent authors directly, this is
how it works.

✦ On shipping, returns, & special options

How long until my book arrives?

US orders: 5-7 business days via USPS Media Mail.

Why not faster? Because we personally pull your book from our small, rotating inventory and package and ship by hand. This keeps
costs down and waste minimal—but it means we're not Amazon Prime.

The upside? Your book is pristine and handled with utmost care. Not a remaindered copy that's been sitting in a distribution center since 2019.

We ship within 3-8 business days of your order. After that, delivery timing is in the capable hands of USPS.

What if I don't like the book? Can I return it?

Books are non-returnable • As a small operation rather than a corporation with a dedicated returns department, we're unable to accept returns on books that have been read or opened.

However • If your book arrives damaged in transit, we'll replace it promptly. If we made an error with your order, we'll make it right. We stand behind the quality of our work.

Before purchasing, we recommend:
✦ Reading the excerpt on the product page
✦ Reviewing available reader feedback
✦ Contacting us with questions about content, tone, or fit

We'd rather you feel confident in your purchase than experience buyer's remorse later. These books aren't for everyone—but if they're for you, you'll know.

Can I send a book as a gift to someone else?

Absolutely. At checkout, simply enter their shipping address and include a note if you'd like us to add a message. We'll package it
appropriately as a gift—no receipt, no pricing information included.

Worth noting • Our books make meaningful gifts for readers who appreciate romance with literary sensibility and intelligent
storytelling.
